Set against the backdrop of one of Canada’s most vibrant industrial regions, this conference brings together industry leaders, innovators, policymakers, and stakeholders for a dynamic exchange of ideas, insights, and opportunities.

Over the last 10 years, our team at Kiwi Productions has had the privilege of working alongside Focus Communication and and team at Alberta’s Industrial Heartland in producing this prominent 1000 people event. Throughout the years, we have implemented various designs for the event utilizing our ever growing audio visual technology.

Client’s Ask

The client and Focus Communication (clients marketing and event planning team) have entrusted our team from day one to design the event within their allocated budget each year. Their only asks were:

Ensure that the audio video elements of the event are flawless and presenters do not encounter technical disruptions.
Sponsors are highlighted throughout the event

Full service event design, production and content co-management

Projection Screen And Visual:

As the event design has progressed over the years, we have implemented various styles of projection screens, including; rigged and flew two 21ft wide x 11ft long projection screens to elegantly frame the sides of the stage with a 16ft wide x 9ft long centre projection screen for central focus, ensuring all attendees had an unobstructed view of the main content. Other styles included five large screens spread across the room and the most recent production included a massive 100ft wide x 17ft long screen behind the stage with a side 16ft wide x 9ft long screen.

Dedicated Sponsor Highlights Screen: Every year we have installed a dedicated 16ft wide x 9ft long side screen to showcase sponsor highlights, maintaining visibility and prominence for the event supporters.

Projection Technology: Utilizing our Epson laser projectors ranging from 16,000 lumens to 20,000 lumens, we delivered stunningly bright and clear images across all screens. This technology ensured high-definition visuals that were vivid and engaging, even in a large venue.

Screen Backdrop Drapes: Each year we install backdrop drapes ranging from 80ft wide to 100ft wide x 30ft long behind the screens, creating a visually appealing show. This setup is enhanced with 16-21 units of LED Par multi-color lights, allowing for dynamic and mood-setting lighting effects that complement the event’s theme and colours.

Stage Lights: Our Leko front wash and spotlights are strategically placed to capture the presenters perfectly. This lighting ensures that the image quality on the screens is clear and highlights the presenters effectively.

Crystal-clear Audio Experience:

Each year, comprehensive JBL audio system is flown to distribute sound evenly and clearly throughout the venue. This setup provides ample coverage, ensuring that every attendee experiences high-quality audio without any distortions.

Live Switching and capture

Audio and Video Control: Our expert audio visual technicians used state-of-the-art audio console, video switchers, and lighting console to ensure flawless execution of the event. This technology enabled seamless transitions and precise control over the event’s audio-visual elements.

HD Multi-Camera Setup: Two high definition cameras were deployed to capture live footage of the presenters. This footage was then switched live onto the projection screens, providing an engaging and real-time viewing experience for the audience.

Truss and Cable Management:

80ft – 120ft truss system is rigged with flown cable runs, creating a clean and organized appearance. This meticulous attention to detail prevents any visual distractions, maintaining the event’s polished and professional look.

  Kiwi Productions exceeded all expectations when it came to audio and visual support for Edmonton Startup Week, hosted annually by Edmonton Unlimited, including Launch Party, our flagship event. The expertise and flexibility of Bryce and his team was evident by the the setup in our space that allowed us to host over 30 events back-to-back throughout the week, the production for Launch Party at the Edmonton Convention Centre, and the content series featuring our Launch Party companies on the Alberta Impact podcast. We leaned on them heavily for audio support in our space for different events, plus the ability to record most of the sessions. The production value that included  large screens that displayed content, slide decks, and camera angles, along with audio options, lights, and stage accessories made the experience for everyone involved both on and off the stage seamless and memorable. For a smaller team, they are mighty and their passion for producing a well-polished product and experience resonated with us the most. It was more than just a job to them; it was like they were part of the team.   When you host a 3 day conference with over 1000 attendees, including 650 students, 225 volunteers, 150 people from partnering organizations, and executives from multi-billion $ companies, you need an AV provider that is professional, adaptable, and organized. We required entertainment for 2 major events with 700+ attendees: an opening ceremony and a formal gala for Canada's largest Undergraduate business case competition and conference. Bryce and his team provided our projectors, screens, camera work, live streaming capabilities, switching, and essentially ran our show on the technical side.

JDC West is a complex weekend: it involves 7 events, each with over 700 people with extremely tight turnarounds to move attendees from one event to another. This makes planning, setup, and organization prior to the event critical to success, and Bryce's decades of experience in the events space provided value immediately by knowing which camera angles to use in the room and how to reposition our extremely tight ballroom to provide adequate space for equipment. We had initially planned to use a more inexpensive option for our projectors and stream switching, but it became evident we needed help, and Bryce's team were a joy to work with for our planning committee, our event staff, management at The Westin, and our audio provider, Market Sound. From the first meeting with Kiwi Productions, it became clear that Bryce would go above and beyond to make our event work. Our whole team felt like Kiwi was a true partner, not just a vendor.

  Kiwi Productions has been a stand up company to deal with. We (track and field team) only have good things to say about them. They are prompt, organized and really detailed in all their work. We have been using them for ~8 years. They have provided great solutions on the video/web stream front and interface with our timers and technical crew really well to bring results and video into one place. The end product is really professional and has allowed us to do unique and different things in our sport.   Best ever production/AV company we have ever used. We’ve been using Encore for over a decade and I’m SO glad we took a leap of faith and tried out Bryce for our event. His team is so knowledgeable and friendly, they came up with so many ideas for us.
